I am expecting my second baby and wanted to have some kind of celebration even though where I am from it is taboo to have a shower for a second baby.
I decided to have what I am calling a Mother's Blessing where the emphasis is on celelbrating the upcoming birth of another child and not on bringing gifts. I have asked guest to bring a blank onsie, blanket, or other baby item and I will have fabric paints and embelishments available so each guest can decorate an item for the new baby. Since I did give away all my son's infant clothes that was the only thing I really needed for the new baby. For the invitations I did postcard size, four to a page. I have an image in the background that I found on clipart of a hand holding a baby's foot, I lightned the image and put all the party info in black bold lettering over the image. On the side of the card written vertically is Your Invited to a mother's blessing". Centered on the card was "Join us to celebrate the upcoming birth of another (my last name)..... Expecting Mother (my name) needs your blessings and support." Then I asked the guest to bring the item to have painted and put the date and time of the party. For Decorations I will have clothesline strung around the dinning room where most of the party will be held....I will hang various baby items throughout the line leaving lots of room inbtween for guest to hang their item once they have finished decorating it. I had my belly cast so I will have that on display as well. I will have a large prenatal picture of myself for guest to sign along the matting. The nursery theme is whinnie the pooh so my sister in law will be making a themed cake centered around that. For refreshments I will keep it simple fruits and veggies chips and dips. I will have small notecards which I have precut with decorative edges for guest to write their blessings on. These will be put into a baby book and used for inspiration leading up to and during labor. "
